SERVET – Research on new circular economy processes at the SERVICE of Strategic Sovereignty

The project “Research on new circular economy processes at the SERVICE of Strategic Sovereignty , SERVET” has been funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, within the framework of the Science and Innovation Missions 2025 initiative of the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI).

SERVET aims to design a new circular, efficient, sustainable and technologically advanced value chain, oriented to the selective recovery of critical and strategic raw materials (CRMs).

These CRMs are found in post-consumer waste and the streams generated in their treatment, such as photovoltaic and hybrid panels, printed circuit boards (PCBs), end-of-life vehicle (ELV) fluff, steel mill soils and other complex solid industrial wastes. SERVET will focus on the recovery of fundamental and strategic raw materials such as copper (Cu), silicon (Si), tantalum (Ta) and niobium (Nb), essential materials for critical sectors such as the energy transition, digitalization, automotive and electronics industries.

The project started on January 1, 2026 and will last for four years. The consortium is formed by the companies FRAGNOR SL, TÉCNICAS REUNIDAS INTERNACIONAL, S.A.U., ATLANTIC COPPER SLU, ABORA ENERGY S.L., LENZ INSTRUMENTS, S.L. and INGENIERÍA NAVARRA MECÁNICA S.L.U. In addition, the project will have the collaboration of important Technological Centers; GAIKER, EURECAT, LUREDERRA and the Research Center CENIM-CSIC.
